Dear friends,
Over the past 1 week, 3 events have been successfully held - Charity Nite Cycling, the 1st Neighbourhood Health Screening (NHS), and Screening of House MD.
We had a really great time with the visually-handicapped at East Coast Park last Friday. Congrats to Grace and her team for successfully organising this event!
NHS is an extension of our annual Public Health Screening. We want to reach out to the lower-income heartlanders, to ensure early detection of diseases and the propagation of health education to those who need them most. The pick-up rate of undiagnosed diabetes from PHS was abt 20%. That is a significant proportion! Our work has an impact. NHS will be carried out on a regular basis, and we definitely need ur help and support! So do sign up as volunteers!
If u've watched the Ch 5 or CNA news today, u'll probably see Medsoc in the news on our collaboration with the Singapore Heart Foundation for NHS! Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam was there to grace the first NHS. Great job, Chong Keat and Quan Yao, for bringing the Medsoc Health Screening Programme to the heartlands!
Upcoming events:
1. Med-Law Challenge - Fri to next Tues. Lets rally together! Support ur frens, support Medicine! 2. Exam Welfare - Started! Food and drinks have been placed in strategic locations. Pls see below. 3. House Screening - Next Mon, 6pm, LT 29
This week's read is contributed by Zheng Jye from M5. Thanks ZJ! Its a winning essay in the Francis Velay Humanism in Medicine Essay Contest. The story bears out the old adage - "To cure sometimes, to relieve often, to comfort always".
If u have any interesting, funny, or inspirational stories that u'd like to share with everyone, pls email me. Thanks!
Cheers! Chew Lip 1. Exam Welfare Starts 2. Medicine Statue |
