Dissection Instruments

Dissection instruments such as forceps (sharp and blunt) and scalpel blade holder can be bought from the Co-Op.  These are not really necessary because these stuff can be borrowed from the dissection hall.  Besides, there are no longer any dissection practicals, just viewing of prosected specimens.  Latex gloves, however, should be bought.  A box of 50 pairs is way too much, though, for one person so you may want to consider sharing the box of gloves with another person of the same hand size.

Skeleton

A set of bones is optional, as you'll only use it (if ever) in Year One, plus the fact that it costs a bomb.  If you know of any nice senior who owns a set you may want to ask him/her to loan it to you.  Owning a set is impressive, though, especially during Chinese New Year when relatives come visiting and spot your skeleton hanging in your room...

Tools Of The Trade

No medical student can do without his basic tools of stethoscope, tendon tapper, pentorch and tuning forks.  In addition some may purchase additional equipment like ophthalmoscope, otoscope and sphygmomanometer.  These instruments are usually purchased via a bulk order during the Medical Instruments Fair which is held in October every year.  Since we’ll only get to use these instruments during clinical years (Year 3 and beyond), the Year 2s are usually the target of this fair.

If in any event you require to purchase instruments outside of the fair, do go to my index page for contacts of instrument vendors.
