Textbook Review by Ong Kok Leong (M2 2002/2003)

Summary of Textbooks For M2

Neuroscience

Neuroanatomy - An Illustrated Colour Text (Crossman and Neary)

This is a pretty good book to use to supplement your notes.  Actually the notes are pretty much sufficient for most chapters.

Clinical Neuroanatomy and Related Neuroscience (Fitzgerald)

This book goes a little deeper than Crossman and Neary, and is recommended for those who are really interested in neuroscience.

Clinical Neuroanatomy for Medical Students (Snell)

For the Snell-lovers out there, who haven't gotten enough of their Year one texts.

Microbiology

Medical Microbiology and Immunology - Examination and Board Review

Most students will use this book to supplement their notes

Medical Microbiology (Jawetz)

This is the thicker version, with more details in Microbiology.  Probably too much information, read it of you are interested.

Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple

This book has lots of ridiculous pictures and mnemonics to help you get through microbiology.

Colour Atlas of Infectious Diseases

This book provides all the pictures that is lacking in the main text.  However, it is very costly.

Microbiology (Lippincott's Series)

This book is good for an overview, and particularly useful for the infectious disease section of the microbiology module.

Immunology

Immunology (Janeway and Travers)

A textbook solely for immunology is not needed, unless you want to know more about the subject.

Immunology (Sunshine)

A textbook solely for immunology is not needed, unless you want to know more about the subject.

Pharmacology

Basic and Clinical Pharmacology (Katzung)

Most students end up using this book, either in year two or three.

Pharmacology (Rang, Dale, Ritter and Moore)

This book is more colourful than Katzung, and is the alternative for Katzung.

Pharmacology - Examination and Board Review (Katzung and Trevor)

This is a review book for Katzung, and is useful of you do not have enough time to go through your stuff.

Pharmacology (Lippincott's)

Good overview of Pharmacology.

Basic Concepts in Pharmacology

Brief overview of Pharmacology.

Pathology

Pathological Basis of Disease (Papa Robbins)

A good but really thick text for pathology.

Basic Pathology (Mama Robbins)

A condensation of Papa Robbins, but still sufficient for the exams.

Pathology (Stevens and Lowe)

A colourful text for pathology. Good summary text.

Concise Pathology (Chandrasoma and Taylor)

This text is concise yet very good for essay exams.

Basic Histopathology (Wheater's)

A supplement for your histopathology practicals, but not really essential.

Community, Family and Occupational Medicine

Textbook of Occupational Medicine Practice
