Concise Paediatrics, by Rachel Sidwell and Mike Thomson
'This book covers almost everything you need in paediatrics, but is in point form, which may not suit some people. Personally I found it very useful as a revision text. You'll probably not be able to purchase the book anymore (I think it's out of print or something) so if you want to use this book you'll have to borrow from a senior.'
Illustrated Textbook of Pediatrics, by Tom Lisseuer and Graham Clayden aka
'Sunflower book'
'Not enough information, but quite a comprehensive summary of the bare minimum of facts needed. Some topics are not included.'
'A very brief text that gives you the overview of paediatrics. Although there isn't much depth, this book is filled with nice pictures and colourful diagrams that is lacking in the other core textbooks of paediatrics.'
'A “Talley” for paediatrics. Good as it gives tips on how to approach common long and short cases.'
'If you are exam-oriented (which most people are), this book will be very useful to you! It is written in the familiar Talley O-Conner format, and shows you step-by-step how you should tackle your paediatrics long and short cases.'
Teddy Bear Book
'This is a small little handbook published by MOH and is very useful, especially the part on Dehydration. Out of print already so get from seniors!'
'This book is useful to carry around, but most of the stuff in it is more for doctors than medical students.'
Rudolph’s Fundamentals of Paediatrics
'I found this a very good textbook. Paediatrics emphasizes the approach because children often present with common symptoms like diarrhea or fever, and you have to rule out differentials till you get the correct one. Rudolph takes this approach and thus is very useful in helping you in the clinical setting. It also contains enough information for most major paediatric illnesses you need to know. '
'This book looks at paediatric conditions from a symptomatic approach. Eg. Approach to a Child with Breathlessness, Allergies etc. Good reading material and provides a different viewpoint from lecture notes.'
Short Cases In Pediatrics by Alan Cade
'This book turned out to be very useful for paediatrics short cases, as it covers how you present each patient to the examiners..however it is an extremely rare book, can't be found in the medical library and only a few seniors have it.'
'An alternative to the book above, this book also covers in prose how you should present your patients to your examiners. Available in the RBR section of the medical library.'
